In the days were even spots looked cool in shades...
Cool Spot was one of those games I really wanted when I was younger, but never got, purely because the Spot looked Cool. He seems to be a strange mix of fido-dido and... well... a spot.
Either something was wrong with my emulated copy, or this game does not do very well compared to my hopes. When I finally got to play the game, I saw very grainy graphics, pixelated all over, and very tinny sound as Cool Spot surfs on a 7-Up bottle (marketting, anyone?). That was only the menus too, the game was going to prove rather fruitless.
For a start, this first 'area'... 'mission'... 'quest'... 'doodad'.... is on the beach. Okay, that's not too bad, at least it isn't the default Forest level. But what I want to know is WHY Cool Spot does what he does? Perhaps it says in the manual which I haven't got, I certainly hope it does, because a Cool Spot wandering around the beach, shooting crabs with weird energy balls from his hands? I don't know why that is particularly cool... unless it is purely his sunglasses that gives him that title.
Maybe I hyped it up in my mind over the years, but all together I have no desire to play Cool Spot; there are far better platformers out there: Zool, Superfrog, even Leander would work better in its place.
