Nostalgia for some, plain weirdness for others!
The New Zealand Story is one of the most bizarre games made, at least I think so. You play as a valiant Kiwi (no, not the fruit, he's a little plump chicken-like bird) who, armed with his bow-and-arrow must rescue his friends from the evil Walrus!
Of course, this is no easy feat! Ahead of our brave chicken-like Kiwi friend is a crazy menagerie of monsters and traps, from soldiers with boomerangs to giant frozen whales! Of course, all Kiwi's on a mission of vengeance need some serious firepower, like, spaceships, bombs and lasers!
The game is quite difficult, especially in the later levels as they are covered in deadly spikes; one touch and that's a life gone! Also, there are large regions of the scrolling worlds that are packed with enemies, many of which move randomly and fire various different projectiles at our little yellow chum.
The music will bore into your head if you try to complete the game, it goes on a constant, overriding loop, split occasionally with the sad squeak of the Kiwi when he dies. Which, he will, many, many times.
Purely for those who have some long connection and bid to rediscover it! However, prepare to be a little disappointed if you are one of those people!
It can be found for PS2, a special Taito title game disc, as Taito had a hand in its creation.
