"All things have a beginning..."

Yes, one of today's most popular and fastest selling game franchises started with this innocent, (or not so innocent) low budget title! I haven't played any of the newest games, mainly because I wasn't in love with this game, although there is unquestionably HUGE differences between now and then!
The reason I corrected myself with its innocence is because I remembered about the quite terrible things that happen to the Prince should he fail battling out of the prison and rescuing the Princess from the palace... like being skewered by a sword, pummetting hundreds of feet to hit the floor with a messy 'pat!' noise, or even to be cleaved in half by huge, nashing steel toothed doors!
Yes well, as you can see, there are plenty of trials to be faced by the young prince, first of which is understanding and getting a grip on the rather unweildy control setup! Sometimes your greatest downfall is simply not jumping at the right time, to do that means you fall, fall and fall some more before you join the bones at the bottom! The sword fighting though is pretty good once the knack is learned; for a simple 2D game with less than 1meg of memory devoted to it, its pretty good!
The graphics therefore are very basic, the walls and backgrounds are all clones of one brick, the slabs and ceiling tiles are all copies, and the enemies are the same model with different colours give to them. The prince doesn't even have features! (except for a nose and hair). Still, even with rather lacking sounds added to that, it is a interestng game, and certainly challenging; you must complete all the levels and save the princess in under an hour, real time!
