"Fierce, competitive, brutal. The action is back, this time its bigger and better!"
Speedball one was such a success that its sequel was boosted over several platforms including PCs, and Bitmap Brothers gave their all to improve the graphics, the gameplay and most of all, the sound.
Speedball 1 was lacking in that it had very little feeling of space or of grandeur, the arena was small, lifeless and enclosed. Now though, Speedball 2 has a coliseum-like arena with banks of cheering crowds and an array of traps, wormholes, bouncing pads and score-stars! Don't forget the man selling ice cream in the crowd!
The gameplay is much improved, especially for the one player mode; you now have money - or credits - to spend on upgrading each individual member of your Speedball team, from Forwards to Goalkeeper. The upgrades are such: speedboots (speed and manoeuvrability), brain (AI intelligence when you aren't controlling them), power gloves (for harder punches!) and much, much more! Plus you buy new players, in case of injury or even death of current players!
However, the CPU teams are tough to beat! In one player tournament (or even knockout) modes, they can get hardcore from the get go, which can be overly frustrating. If you can't do it, either play a human opponent for some great two-player action, or improve your money-spending skills!
The theme for Speedball 2 is excellent, much improved from SB1, and I would highly recommend the game for PC users!
