Interview with Deftone

Developer from SMSEngineerMUI

Could you tell us a little bit about you?

What schall I say? I am 19 years old, student at a college for information- and communicationtechnics and, well, very lazy.

Since when do you`ve got an Amiga, since when do you programme on it?

I was four when I got my first Amiga2000 in my Hands. At this time it belonged to my father. It was amazing, allthough I was only 4 years old and didn`t do anything else than hitting some keys :) Since this time I am loyal to the Amiga. I got my first Amiga at the age of 12, an CDTV! Sadly I sold it, because I got the A2000 given from my father, the mistake of my life. Well, shortly after I bought an A1200, which I still use. I was 14 when I programmed for the first time, with Cando, a nice little programming language for the mouse that I got from an AmigaPlus Coverdisk. Quite some time after I purchased BlitzBasic. I still programm with it. I`ve got to learn C/C++ in school, perhaps I can use this for something on my Amiga.

What kind of Amiga have you got? Have you got other computers?

An Amiga1230IV BlizzardSCSIKit 52MB RAM. Who wants to give me a PPC? Unfortunately also a PC of my father that does the DLS Gateway.

Why did you choose an Amiga for yourself?

Why did you choose it? Good question, next question! :)))

Seems that everyone has an other reason. Which one was yours?

The OS, Multitasking, no Windows, ease of use...there are lots of reasons why I use the Amiga.

What is/will be your actual title or what things will come in the near future?

My actual title is SMSEngineerMUI, a tool to send international SMS with an Amiga over TCP/IP. Latest Version is allready in progress.

Are there any new features? Tell us something aoubt it.

Yes, we are currently working on an ARexx Port thats work for 90%. The source is being completely rewritten. Perhaps the GUI will be seperated from the programm so that one doesn`t have to use MUI and cann choose among many other GUI-systems, like Reaction or even just the CLI. Other projects are also running, but I cannot tell anything about them.

Ooohhh, at least a bit?

No, really not, as it is just planned yet, but I am not really sure if I should even write it.

Do you programm fulltime for the Amiga, or is it just a job for you? What do you do in your occupation?

Mainly student. Programming just for fun and to support the Miggy.

Do you work together with other groups/labels?

Actually not (yet).

Not yet? So you are planning something?

No, but perhaps some things come together.

For what Amiga do you develop mainly? 68k or PPC?

M68k, if someone would give me a PPC I will also programm for PPC.

Are you going to support AmigaOSPPC, MorphOS or the AmigaDE in the future, or are you allready working on such a project? If so, tell us something about it.

Yes, as soon as I get a PPC Card I will write Software for MorphOS. I will not buy an AmigaDE until I see that it`s worth the money.

And OS4.0?

Ohh, I forgot that. Sure, but first I want facts on which machines it actually runs. DE or Classic with PPC.

Are you going to port some projects of yourselve to other platforms? Which and when and most of all where?

SMSEngineer as PC version is planned, but I will need some more programming-lessons in the school.

What do you think of the current situation of the Amiga?

I`ll look at the thing for a while and rate it when Amiga actually releases something.

What do you wish for yourself for the future of the Amiga?

A system that knocks up the PC!

Do you really believe in that?

Sound bad, but do you ever ged rid of flys?

What kind of software do you miss on the Amiga?

In fact nothing.

Really?

Well, perhaps some more Games like DynAMIte :) Hi UltraGelb, Todi!!! Or some like on the Playstation.

What type of Hardware do you miss on the Amiga?

Pure TV Card for the A1200, Webcams, USB, Good Joysticks like on the PC Market

By the way, have you got a homepage? How`s the URL?

http://www.blitzengineers.de

You can one reach you best with e-mail or snail-mail?

Via Email at deftone@blitzengineers.de

How do you like the Amiga Future?

It was my preferred Mag. Sadly it`s only available by abo anymore. I don`t buy every issue of Magazins, and therefore I don`t want to get an Abo. Single orders aren`t profitable

You can get a single issue of the Amiga Future. Why is this unprofitable? The Mag isn`t more expensively.

Well, as I said i hate orders, haven`t much money as student, and in fact, online news are faster. But I will get buy some mags allthough.

have you got a maskotchen?

Hehe..........no, but if so, it would be Flat Eric (Mr. Oizo)

What are your hobbies?

My hobbies are programming, Amiga, making the DJ of House/Detroit at Events in Germany and Switzerland.

What is your preferred Movie?

Space Balls :-)

What do you want to say to the Crackers?

Buy the originals and support the Amiga Market.

What do you think about such long and annoying interviews?

I really like them :)

Perhaps some words at last?

To repeat it, I need a PPC Card for my A1200 :))))
