Today Fabio Trotta talked to James Daniels from Apex Designs.
Soon he will bring us the GTA-Style Gangster Game "Payback".

1. Hi James since how many years are you an AMIGA User ?

Roughly ten years.

2. Why is the AMIGA your chosen one ?

I choose to develop for the Amiga for a lot of reasons, but the single biggest one has to be the friendliness of the community.

3. What Computer(s) do you use at home ?

Just my Amiga. (Unless the PSX counts. :)

4. What are your non-computer related hobbies ?

Go-karting, listening to music and going out. :)

5. Which games are your favourites at the moment ?

I've bought Wipeout 2097, but I've not been able to play it yet because my PPC card hasn't arrived. I'll probably also buy a copy of Heretic II once the PPC arrives. On the Playstation, I've been playing Gran Turismo 2 and Hogs of War.

6. How long does Apex Designs exist ?

I've been publishing games under the name Apex Designs since 1996, when I first released the public domain game 'Frontal Assault', although I was writing games for a long time before then.

7. Are you alone Apex Designs, or are there any other persons ?

Several bands are contributing to the soundtrack, and a couple of artists are currently working to improve the textures used by the game.

8. Your actual project is "Payback". At what state is it and how much longer must we wait for this great title ?

The game engine is now finished except for a few minor bugs and CGFX support. The first of the three cities the game is set in has also been completed.

9. Do you have the plans to port games from other platforms ?

No.

10. What do you think about the actual state of the AMIGA market and is there any future in your eyes ?

I don't believe the Amiga market is shrinking as rapidly as it once was, mainly because people are much more optimistic now that there's actually someone at the helm. I'm cautiously optimistic about Amiga Inc's plans and, although there are a few areas of concern (mainly the lack of memory protection in the new OS and competition from Microsoft's '.net'), I believe that AI might just have a winner on their hands.

11. What do you think about the d`AMIGA and the AMIGA One and would you support them ?

I'm not going to make a decision on that until I've actually seen an AmigaOne in operation.

12. What`s your thoughts about the AMIGA Piracy Scene ?

There is no excuse for piracy in the Amiga market - a single sale lost through piracy could make a developer decide to abandon all future development for the platform.

13. Are there any Comments for our Community ?

Make sure you buy Payback when it's released! :)

Many thanks for the talk and i wish you good sales for Payback. I looking forward to this great title. Go on supporting us with such cool games.
