WordNet 3.0 released for AmigaOS4

Published 02.09.2009 - 14:13 by AndreasM

Auf http://www.amigaworld.net steht:

WordNet is a large electronic database of the English language developed at the Cognitive Science Laboratory, Princeton University. It contains more than 155 thousand words and phrases that are semantically tagged and interlinked to form an intricate, hierarchical network of word meanings. This network can be walked through using a native OS4 browser.

Being more than just a dictionary, it is an indispensable tool for translators, English learners, English teachers, linguists, copywriters, etc. [...]

AmigaOS Open Sourced: Scherz oder Realität ?

Published 01.09.2009 - 15:14 by Eule

Icaros Desktop: Live! 1.1.4 available, and update issues

Published 01.09.2009 - 13:50 by AndreasM

Some people complained that automatic update from version 1.1.3 to 1.1.4 doesn't work, as the procedure stops somewhere when de-compressing the downloaded ISO image and mounting this one as virtual CD. I sincerely apologize for the issue, but I can't really figure out its origins: the routine is exactly the same that allowed the first two updates (from 1.1.1 to 1.1.2 and from 1.1.2 to 1.1.3) without issues, so I can only imagine that the decompressing command in version 1.1.3 isn't providing the results it should. In fact, reports say that once LiveUpdater has unzipped the ISO, AROS crashes when trying to mount it. Trying to mount the resulting ISO after the reboot (you can do that, since it is still stored in Extras:LUPD temporary directory) may destroy your AROS installation. Aaarrrgh!

I will do some investigations in the next days to better understand the issue. However, I can only assure that if you manually download the update CD from 1.1.3 to 1.1.4, and you use any archive manager on Linux or Windows to extract the ISO, and then you copy it over AROS, you can use LiveUpdater's "from ISO" option to successfully update the system. In the meanwhile, I suggest to "broken installation" people to download either the Light or the Live! 1.1.4 version of Icaros Desktop and reinstall it from scratch, without formatting partitions: this will respawn your Icaros installation without touching most user settings.
