68k.news: A Google News parser for vintage web browser

Published 28.03.2021 - 11:58 by osz

I have no data to base my statement on, but most of us probably use the Internet to communicate and get informations. The latter often happens via Google News, a Google platform that aggregates news from various news sites. Unfortunately, however, Google News is not available to everyone, at least if you include the use of older home computers with somewhat outdated browsers. It's actually a shame when it's basically just about reading a digital newspaper.

Sean aka Action Retro on YouTube, whose heart clearly beats for old Macs, has apparently seen this problem as a challenge and created his own solution: 68k.news is a parser for Google News and the following news sites. The site dispenses with images and unnecessary ballast and offers pure information in text form. The site is tested on a Netscape 1.1 up to version 4 on a Mac SE/30.

We hope to be able to comfortably consume our news on the Amiga on Sunday morning, optionally with tea or coffee in hand, in the future.

And here it goes to 68k.news: http://68k.news/

If you like, you can also visit Sean's website and find out more about his projects and possibly support him with his projects: https://actionretro.com/
