DIY project: Amiga 1000 parallel port converter

Published 01.10.2022 - 13:36 by osz

Yesterday we presented two self-build extensions by the GitHub user wiretap-retro, which enable the operation of an Amiga 500 and Amiga 2000 on an ATX power supply. Another project follows today from the same repository, which may help to save frustration and trouble: the Amiga 1000 parallel port converter.

All classic Amigas have a so-called Centronics parallel port, but not the Amiga 1000. If you compare the pin assignment of the parallel port on the Amiga with that of another Amiga model, you will see that everything up to and including pin 13 is the same for both pin assignments. However, the problem is between pins 14 and 25. On the Amiga 1000, all these pins are GND, except for pin 23 (+5V), pin 24 (not connected) and pin 25 (/RESET). With all other Amiga models, however, the last three pins have moved and are located on pin 14 (+5V), pin 15 (not connected) and pin 16 (/RESET).

Soldered together and connected to the parallel port of the Amiga 1000, this little extension can save you some trouble: https://github.com/wiretap-retro/Amiga- ... -Converter

AmigaMultiROM_LP: 4-way kickstart ROM switcher as a DIY project

Published 01.10.2022 - 12:58 by osz

The AmigaMultiROM_LP project by GitHub user cheshirenoir is a small circuit board that makes it possible to use up to four Kickstart ROM images burned on a 27C160 EPROM in the Amiga. According to the information provided, the author has only tested his project in an Amiga 600 so far. A suitable switch is also required to switch between the Kickstart ROM images. All necessary data for KiCAD can be obtained directly from the GitHub repository: https://github.com/cheshirenoir/AmigaMultiROM_LP
