Open Laser Mouse: An upgrade for the Tank Mouse

Published 22.10.2020 - 19:12 by osz

Retro ends for some people where the mouse with a ball is used. But if you don't want to use your Amiga without your beloved tank mouse, we have a new DIY project for you.

Christopher Harris has published his project on GitHub for converting the so-called tank mouse into a mouse with a laser. All you need is an Arduino Nano, an ADNS9800 laser, a matching lens, a hand of electronic components and this project. The project itself contains Gerber files with which a suitable circuit board can be produced. There are two versions of the PCB available, one for THT components and one for SMD components. You will also find a list of the required components in this GitHub repository, the software for the Arduino Nano and a cover for the laser lens that can be printed with a 3D printer. If you are interested, there is also a link to another project to produce a tank mouse with a 3D printer.

The author points out that the project is still in development. [...]

RCEU540: A 4-players joystick adapter for self-soldering

Published 21.10.2020 - 20:56 by osz

.

Most Amiga games, if they are not a one-man show, should be filled with two players. But there are also some games that four people can play at the same time. One of the most famous of these games is likely to be Dynablaster. For players 3 and 4, an adapter is required that provides the necessary joystick connections via the parallel port. Such an adapter can now be soldered together thanks to the RCEU540-Amiga-4-Player-Adapter-Project. A suitable housing from the 3D printer can be ordered via a link on Thingiverse.

Here is the GitHub repository of the project: https://github.com/Retro-Commodore/RCEU ... er-Adapter

Tindie: The online marketplace for DIY hardware

Published 21.10.2020 - 20:03 by osz

This message should be interesting for all those who do not trust themselves to produce hardware or who have no time or inclination to do it or who want to offer some self-made hardware themselves.

Tindie is really not new anymore, but when I heard about it from my work colleague, "Amiga" was my first search term there. I wasn't really surprised to see numerous results there. This also worked with the search terms "Commodore", "C64" and "Atari". And of course many more. So I thought that might be a good tip. But what is Tindie?

Anyone who knows the online marketplace Etsy can roughly imagine what is behind Tindie. The original principle of Etsy is to offer artists and skilled craftsmen a marketplace where they can sell their self-made products. Only instead of, for example, handmade jewelry and sewn or knitted goods, there is everything an electronics technician's heart desires. Everything that can somehow be combined under the term hardware finds its place here. From bare circuit boards to fully soldered products. [...]
