New uploads in The Aros Archive

Published 01.05.2021 - 11:05 by AndreasM

The AROS Archives is a collection of software for the AROS Research Operating System and can be found via the URL http://archives.aros-exec.org .

It runs in a similar way to Aminet, as the programmers themselves usually upload their own software in order to make it available to AROS users.

With nearly 1,000 uploads there is now an interesting collection of software for AROS. [...]

Bitcoin mining on the C64

Bitcoin mining on the C64

Sometimes you just ask yourself: Why at all? Or: Why the hell? The answer in this case is quite simple: Because you can! It's about Bitcoin mining on the C64. ... WHAT?! ... Yessss! Probably the most ineffective but by far the coolest way to mine Bitcoins so far. Well, it should work on the Gameboy too. It remains to be clarified which of the two CPUs is more powerful - at least I don't know.

Doesn't make any sense, right? Yeah right. But it's funny as hell! [...]

vAmiga 1.0 Beta 1 is out

Published 26.04.2021 - 17:03 by osz

Dirk Hoffmann writes about his Amiga emulator vAmiga in the news section on his website:

"Although not perfect yet (it will never be), vAmiga has proven to be pretty stable by now. Therefore I think it is time to say goodbye to the 0.9 release scheme."

Here is the Changelog for the current version from the GitHub Repository:
  • Reworked the DDF code in Agnus.
  • Fixed a bug that prevented Roms from being saved if the Rom folder wasn’t created yet.
  • Fixed a bug that crashed the emulator when an IPL event was served right before a TXD event.
  • Fixed a bug that crashed the emulator on exit.
  • Restructured all config panels.
  • The emulator has gotten a command console (debug terminal) which can be invoked by clicking the corresponding icon in the toolbar.
vAmiga is available from the official website: https://dirkwhoffmann.github.io/vAmiga/ [...]

Amiga 2000 board in EATX form factor

Published 26.04.2021 - 16:40 by osz

Amiga 2000 board in EATX form factor

This project is currently still a proof-of-concept of a 4-layer open source Amiga 2000 board in EATX format. EATX is simply a larger or extended ATX variant, with a size of 305 × 330 mm. According to the author, this is the better choice for replicating an Amiga 2000 board, given the length of the Zorro II cards and the abundance of components for the Amiga 2000. Proof-of-concept means that there may still be errors in the circuit diagrams. The board cannot function theoretically or at least not reliably at this point in time. The work on the board is still ongoing.

In contrast to other 1:1 replicas, several things have been changed here in addition to the changed form factor. For example, where necessary, new connector options are beeing used, as some connectors for the Amiga are known to be difficult or impossible to obtain and often have to be soldered from an existing boards in order to reuse them. FrogFind.com: DuckDuckGo search on vintage systems

At the end of March we reported on 68k.news, a web project by Sean, better known on YouTube as Action Retro. This is a resource-efficient and vintage computer-friendly parser for Google News. Today we want to recommend another Sean project to you: FrogFind!

The enthusiastic collector of old Mac systems has set up a resource-saving web search, which is based on the data protection specialist DuckDuckGo search service. All search results and the following pages, if you follow the links in the search results, are based on simple HTML 2 standard without images, CSS and JavaScript. Of course, so many of the page functions that are common today are not available, but at least access to much of the information there is made possible via numerous old computer systems with Internet access.
