Use the 68060 CPU in the 68040 socket

Published 26.03.2021 - 09:53 by osz

Stefan Reinauer from Mountain View in California (USA) has built an adapter that allows a 68060 CPU to be operated in a socket for a 68040 CPU, the only requirement is that there is enough space to accommodate the entire construct. This is an adaptation of an existing project by richx, which is based on a solution presented in 2013 in the a1k.org forum.

The KiCAD file of the circuit boards and assembly instructions are available in Stefan Reinauer's GitHub repository: https://github.com/reinauer/68040-to-68060
More information and images can be found in Stefan Reinauer's blog, which incidentally also deals with other Amiga topics: https://amiga.technology/2021/01/18/680 ... formation/

DintWM: A tiling Window Manager for AmigaOS

Published 26.03.2021 - 07:57 by osz

Rasmus Edgar has released an early version of his Tiling Window Manager application for AmigaOS. DintWM (Dynamic Intuition Window Manager) can be run as a commodity. The small tool leads to a similar behavior on the Workbench as it is known from various Unix/Linux window managers. Windows can be arranged as tiles next to one another without overlapping one another. If a new window is opened, the size of the existing windows is adjusted to make room for the new window. This behavior is particularly popular when working with multiple shells.

DintWM can be downloaded as a binary from Aminet: https://aminet.net/package/util/wb/dintwm
You can also find the GitHub repository with the source code here: https://github.com/RasmusEdgar/dintwm

Sam460cr boards are sold out but available again soon

Published 26.03.2021 - 07:46 by osz

If you went to the ACube Systems website just a few days ago, a blue banner informed you that pre-orders of the Sam460cr board from a small batch were possible via email. In the meantime at least the content has changed, you refer now to the news area, where ACube Systems thanks all interested parties for the overwhelming reaction to the Sam460cr board. At the same time they announce that due to the high demand, a larger batch of the boards is planned. This time you can also pre-order the Sam460cr via e-mail, but this time you have to make a small advance payment of the total amount in order to reserve the board. This sum will of course be deducted from the final price later, so that nobody has to pay for it more than the regular price.

Detailed informations are available from ACube Systems: http://www.acube-systems.biz/index.php?page=news&id=145
