> 1. Is there any plan to support SMP / Multiprocesor?

Not yet. We're trying to take SMP into account...

> 2. Can AMIGA OS run on PowerPC co-processor cards, such as Total Impact, or PPC card for PC using Omnicluster technology?

Theoretically, yes.

> 3. Is AMIGA OS 4.0 compatible with OpenPPC platform?

No.

> 4. Is there any plan to support UDI device driver? Using UDI, it is possible to use the same source code of device driver for multiple OS.

No plan for that yet, but certainly interesting.

> 5. Is there any plan to port portability tools such as Bristol, MKS etc to AMIGA OS 4?

Sorry, don't know any of those

> 6. If someone want to invest in AMIGA Inc. with very large scale promotion, can it compete with MS Windows?

Who can tell ? I can't, for sure...

Hello Mr. Thomas,
I want to ask:

1. Hyperion mention 75% confidence in AMIGA Inc and the new owner of AMIGA Inc may dislike AMIGA OS 4. Can you explain this statement?

2. Is Hyperion a public company listed on NEMAX or DAX? Is it possible to invest in Hyperion? Is it possible to establish joint investment program with AMIGA Inc?

3. There are 3 plans for PowerPC Emulators for X86 (Vaporware: ARDI, Microcode and XP2). Is it possible to run AMIGA OS 4 on top of this emulator?

http://www.ardi.com/ardi/technology.html

http://www.emulators.com/updates.htm

http://www.microcode-solutions.com/welcome.htm

4. There is also an automatic binary translator from UK that convert PowerPC program to other platforms (ie X86, MIPS, ARM etc). Is it possible to use this program for porting AMIGA OS 4 to other platforms?

http://www.transitives.com/dynamite1.htm

5. Hyperion mentioned that AMIGA ONE / ZICO is not limited to PowerPC, but can use other CPUs. Is there any plan to port AMIGA OS into low cost AMD's MIPS, low cost INTEL Xscale and high end INTEL McKinley / IA64?

6. There is an open source DOT NET for LINUX from XIMIAN (MONO). Is it possible to port MONO into AMIGA OS 4?

http://www.ximian.com

Thank you.

I'm not aware of this statment.

No, Hyperion is priavately owned.

OS4 currently requires a PowerPC platform, and this would theoretically include
an emulated PowerPC. However, there are no plans to support any emulated
environment at the moment.

I don't think that it's a viable option. It might be possible, but I highly
doubt the usability of such an option.

Hyperion has a license to do a PowerPC version. We don't have the right to port
OS4 to any other platform. However, there is an abstraction layer in the
new exec that would theoretically allow for porting to different CPUs, but our
license doesn't allow for a different CPU than PowerPC.

It should be possible, however, this is more of a task for third parties.

Hi Thomas;

Mich würde interessieren, ob die Radeon 7500/8500 2D/3D-Treiber
regulärer Bestandteil von OS4 sein werden.

Gruß, Frank.

>75% confidence - Statement from Hyperion.

Hi
See:

http://glames.free.fr/infos/itw_hermans.html

"What is your degree of confidence with Amiga future (from 0 to 100) ?
Ben Hermans: I’d say 75%."

"We needed some legal security so that in the event bad things happened (bankruptcy of Amiga, new owner who doesn’t like the classic Amiga OS etc.), we would be protected and could continue."

I want to ask:
1. Does this mean that there is a 1 in 4 chance that AMIGA Inc will be bankrupt soon?

2. Is AMIGA's patents held by GATEWAY related / important to AMIGA OS 4?

3. Who is the new owner? Why do they HATE AMIGA OS 4? What is your strategy in continuing AMIGA OS 4 without AMIGA Inc?

4. Is there any plan from HYPERION to get investment from Venture Capital companies for further development of AMIGA OS 4?

Thank you.

Ich denke, ja, aber ich bin mir nicht ganz sicher. Ich denke mal, das sollte in den nächsten Tagen bekannt gegeben werden...

I'm sorry, I wasn't aware of this statement.

>1. Does this mean that there is a 1 in 4 chance that AMIGA Inc will be bankrupt soon?

You might notice that this statement is not done by me, so I can't really comment.

> 2. Is AMIGA's patents held by GATEWAY related / important to AMIGA OS 4?

You will have to ask Amiga about that.

> 3. Who is the new owner? Why do they HATE AMIGA OS 4? What is your strategy in continuing AMIGA OS 4 without AMIGA Inc?

Uh, sorry ? I wasn't aware that there is a new owner of Amiga, Inc (and I don't believe there actually is). So this makes the second part of your question void.

No.

>Ben Hermans' statement.

Hi
Thank you for the reply. Can Ben Hermans himself (Hyperion) answer the question about his statement?

AMIGA ONE use Articia-S chipset with G3 PowerPC CPU (without Altivec). The next generation of AMIGA ONE will use G4 (with Altivec) and possibly G5 (64 bit CPU). Altivec is a SIMD floating point accelerator.
I want to ask:

1. Does AMIGA OS 4 use Altivec instruction?

2. If an application program use Altivec, but the available hardware uses G3 CPU without Altivec, what will happen?

3. Is there any Altivec emulator on AMIGA OS 4?

4. Is there any plan to port AMIGA OS 4 to G5 and 64 Bit PowerPC from IBM (sstar, istar, pulsar, northstar)?

http://linuxppc64.org/boxes.shtml

http://www.research.ibm.com/journal/rd/ ... hagen.html

5. What about porting to another PowerPC chipsets such as IBM CPC-710, Tundra, Marvel etc?

http://www.xavax.com/ans/ppcmb.html

6. Any plan to port AMIGA OS 4 to IBM RS/6000 machines based on PowerPC and NINTENDO's Gecko?

http://www.pcmag.com/article/0,2997,s%2 ... 488,00.asp

Thank you.

> 1. Does AMIGA OS 4 use Altivec instruction?

The core (Exec, DOS, Intuition, etc) will not use Altivec. We plan to have AltiVec support in OpenGL and the upcoming next generation Warp3D.

> 2. If an application program use Altivec,
> but the available hardware uses G3 CPU
> without Altivec, what will happen?

As there is no defined system support for Altivec, it's up to the application to make sure it will not be used. The OS will not check. If push comes to shove, the task will crash with an illegal instruction.

> 3. Is there any Altivec emulator on AMIGA OS 4?

No.

> 4. Is there any plan to port AMIGA OS 4 to

> istar, pulsar, northstar)?

AmigaOS in it's current form is 32 bit. There's aboslutely no way to make it 64 bit without breaking *all* backwards compatibility.

Plus, there's not enough information on the G5 to even judge if support is doable. It will probably be possible to run OS4 via the PPC64's in-built 32 bit emulation.

> 5. What about porting to another PowerPC
> chipsets such as IBM CPC-710, Tundra,
> Marvel etc?

We are considering all possibilities. We want to run on as much hardware as possible, but of course the hardware must be present, and it must be affordable.
For example, I see no reason to produce OS4 for very old, obsolete boards (like some of the early 601 things), or some obscure prototype boards...

No plans, sorry.
