It appears to me that you are trying to upgrade the firmware of your Netgear WNCE2001 router, is that correct?
The procedure described in the post you quoted in the thread appears to be very elaborate. By this I mean that you have to use the tftp protocol to move the firmware data to the router, which is exceedingly error-prone (well, you already ran into problems).
From my experience, devices of this kind offer built-in firmware upgrade functionality (which, as far as my experience goes, was present in NetGear gateway routers as early as 2001). In the downloadable manual for the WNCE2001 router (page 15), there seems to be a built-in firmware update option after all. If you can log into the administration interface, and download the firmware upgrade, you should be able to perform the upgrade with a minimum of hassle.
I am wondering: is there a specific reason why the firmware upgrade you attempt to perform must be done through tftp?
